Blog Post 4
This week in class we talked about representation. I think this is really interesting topic because I feel like representation helps us learn. In the picture we saw there were many examples of representation, and we had to pick One of the examples was women, I think that women represent a lot of things in our culture. Women can do so many things in today's society, way more than in the past. One of the most important roles I think women represent is leaders, for example Michelle Obama, she represents so many things and being a leader is a big one. I look forward to looking more into this topic.

I was also in your group for the women in popular culture. I think that women have a major role in our society today. I think that women are becoming more prevalent in the workforce, in social media, and also in music.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how women are now being portrayed in popular culture in comparison to what they once were being portrayed as. In the past, I'm thinking more around the beginning of movies and television, women were seen (mainly) as white wives who stay at home and take care of the kids. These women didn't show independence and minority groups weren't represented. If they were, they were seen in a biased opinion. Now, there's a change and I find it fascinating to step back and just look at this difference.
ReplyDeleteI think the women's group is a really good choice for this representation studying we are doing in class. There are so many examples of dominant women roles in movies and even songs nowadays rather than in the past.
ReplyDeleteI am in a liberal studies class right now and we "The History of Sexuality in America" it is a weird class we discussed the role of women in society and it was very interesting. I’m a male so idk about this but she asked if you were a girl to raise your hand if you would be mad if the man didn't pay for your meal. Half the class raised their hands. Then she explained a lot but I remember her talking about if what if the female was the more dominate role what would it be like. How many marriages fail because male loses his job and the female becomes the main provider for the family? Well I don't know about all that but it's a thought.
