This week we talked looked at a picture and talked about college readiness. We were asked to list some of the things we noticed in the picture and draw a picture of how we see college readiness. This is what I drew
The picture we looked at was from the point of view of testing companies. I feel like it could've been better represented if it was from the point of view of a current student. i feel that getting ready for college starts your 8th grade year because those grades determines what classes you take your freshman year in high school. College readiness is more than just taking test, colleges don't want a person that can pass a test, they want a well rounded student. Colleges want a student that has good grades but is also involved in extracurricular activities. In my opinion this image is a bad example of college readiness.

I think a checklist is a great way to view the college readiness process. As you complete certain steps throughout your high school years, you can just check it off your list of things to do. College readiness deals a lot with how mature a student is as well, some people aren't prepared to go to college, while others are.
ReplyDeleteI agree that colleges want students who are well rounded and the image from texascollegereadiness.com wasnt a good represention of how a student can really well rounded. I felt like the image from texascollegereadiness was just a gerenal checklist that every student must do before applying for college. It ignored all the other aspects that will better prepare you for college and showed what was the requirements.
ReplyDeleteI agree getting into college is not a stair step approach you have a lot of different things you can do to get there. Your check list is good but you don’t need every check checked because if you do it becomes linear because you would need to do them all to get there.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I think if the that image of success was drawn my a current high school student or a newly college student it would be much easier for students to relate to. Not every student is going to follow that perfect staircase success image.
